ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM:

Sexual assault and domestic violence are rooted in systems that perpetuate violence against women and/or gender-based violence. This year's symposium will focus on addressing these systems - Patriarchy. A term rarely heard in mainstream conversations, patriarchy is a systemic power structure that infiltrates governments, societies, schools, workplaces, and families and encourages male leadership and power over others. As a result, men - especially cis-gender men - are both perceived and treated as though they are better than, are more respected than, and hold more privileges than women and non-binary people.

Through an interactive keynote and affinity discussion groups, we will engage in conversations and creative thinking around how we can work collectively to identify ways to challenge patriarchy and move us closer to ending sexual assault and domestic violence.

You don't want to miss it.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

Richie Reseda. Freed from prison in July, 2018, Richie Reseda is a feminist ally, community organizer, recording artist, and founder of the social-impact record label, Question Culture. The anti-patriarchy organization he started while incarcerated, Success Stories, was chronicled in the CNN documentary "The Feminist on Cell Block Y". He leads conversations about patriarchy and prison abolition all over the country. He changes California prison policy with Initiate Justice, an organization he co-founded in prison.

Richie will also be facilitating the Male-Identified Affinity Group.

FACILITATORS:

Performer and Female-Identified Affinity Group Facilitator
